The employment effects of industrial symbiosis networks in the South African informal sector

This report deals with the employment effects of industrial symbiosis in the provinces of Gauteng and the Western Cape in South Africa. It focuses on the textile and construction value chains and formalization.

The world of work is currently experiencing major transformations related to technology, innovation, demography, organization of work and production, and environmental protection, all of which are redefining the role of work in society. Accordingly, the ILO Research Department deems it essential to examine and analyse these changes at the global level, and in particular their effects on employment.
