The ILO and ITC-ILO convened yesterday, 6 December, a hybrid knowledge-sharing seminar on the Social Security (Minimum Standards) Convention, 1952 (No. 102). Aimed at tripartite partners, the seminar delved into the convention, including its guiding principles, ratification process and practical application.

Protecting mining workers’ safety and health through South-South Cooperation between ILO, China and Zambia

The ILO, Ministry of Emergency Management of China and key stakeholders in Zambia joined hands in making a contribution towards protecting mining workers’ safe and health in Zambia through a South-South Cooperation Programme on building the capacity of mining companies.

An appraisal of EIIP’s longer-term development impacts

The purpose of this study is to improve understanding of how the project implementation related activities of the Employment Intensive Investment Programme (EIIP) generate long-term development impacts which arise out of: (a) the benefits for users and the wider society of the improved assets, and (b) the employment and increased incomes of those employed on projects.

ILO supports the formalization of enterprises in Mozambique in order to promote decent work

The ILO organised a knowledge sharing workshop in Mozambique on the challenges of informality among small enterprises. Based on international good practices, participants explored which incentives and support schemes can promote the formalization of enterprises and their workers.

International Labour Organization (ILO) Assistant Director General and Regional Director for Africa, Ms. Cynthia Samuel-Olonjuwon arrives in Zambia today to attend the annual Retreat for ILO Directors in Africa which will be held in Lusaka from 18 to 20 January 2023.

Prior to the Retreat, which is being held under the theme: ‘Delivering of the 2019 Abidjan Declaration for ILO constituents in Africa and implementation of the Global Coalition on Social Justice’, Ms. Samuel-Olonjuwon will hold high-level meetings with the Government and Tripartite partners among them; the Zambia Federation of Employers (ZFE) and the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU).
