Leadership and management training for ILO staff in Eastern Europe and Central Asia

Director, specialists and programme officer of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia gathered to undertake leadership and management training in the context of multiple crises. The exercise served to enhance skills for effective teamwork and use of technologies that enable multi-stakeholder collaboration from various locations.

Women and the World of Work in Uzbekistan. Towards Gender Equality and Decent Work for All. 2nd edition updated in 2023

This is the second edition of the report which was updated in 2023 with the most available data. This report responds to the need for a comprehensive analysis of the position of women in the world of work of Uzbekistan. It aims to inform policy, legislation, and initiatives that seek to develop and promote decent work for all women and men. The analysis is based on a review of available empirical evidence, national law and policy, international labour standards and the ILO Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations (CEACR), and insights from the interviews conducted with representatives of national stakeholders and international partners.

Advancing Gender Equality and Decent Work in Uzbekistan. A Compendium of the Conference: Pathways to gender equality and decent work in Uzbekistan with Country Cases and Policy Recommendations

ILO, Decent Work Technical Support Team and Country Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, has compiled a Compendium of Country Cases and Policy Recommendations based on the high-level Conference Pathways to gender equality and decent work in Uzbekistan, in Tashkent held on May 23rd, 2023. This Compendium highlights Uzbekistan's commitment to advancing gender equality and decent work while summarizing the progress made and challenges faced. It provides policy recommendations to address gender gaps and enhance social protection. The report emphasizes the significance of gender equality for sustainable development and underscores the need for comprehensive policies and cultural transformation.

Integrated ILO Approach on Good Governance and Decent Work in Uzbekistan’s Cotton, Textile and Apparel Sector

On 29 November 2023, the International Labour Organization (ILO) organized a workshop for social partners to present the integrated ILO Approach on Good Governance and Decent Work in Uzbekistan’s Cotton, Textile and Apparel Sector. The Approach will serve as an umbrella for different ILO technical cooperation projects operating in cotton, textile and garment supply chain.

ILO team for Eastern Europe and Central Asia: foreseeing trends for the next biennium

23-24 November 2023, TASHKENT – The ILO staff gathered here to take part in an innovative Foresight exercise facilitated by ITC ILO. The exercise served to foster team spirit, reflect on working modalities internally and externally - with the constituents and partners, and deliver on ILO mandate - decent work and social justice.

Identifying and investigating forced labour cases: a training for state labour inspectors in Uzbekistan

On 23 and 24 August 2023, further to a request from the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the ILO Integrated Programme on Cotton, Textile and Apparel sector delivered a two-day online training on identifying and investigating forced labour cases for state labour inspectors.

Project “Transition from Informal to Formal Employment”, Uzbekistan

Project implementation period: 1 October 2021 – 31 May 2023. A new module added to the Labour Force Survey (LFS) questionnaire enabling to measure informal employment in Uzbekistan. Institute has been conducting the Labour force survey, under which a new module was added and piloted in the country – the module on measurement of informal employment. Seven key questions have been added into the LFS enabling not only to analyse informal employment and its regional peculiarities, but also develop recommendations for the Strategy for reduction of the share of informal employment and transition to formality.

Project “Transition from Informal to Formal Employment”, Uzbekistan

Project implementation period: 1 October 2021 – 31 May 2023. The video-reel captures key achievements of the project, namely: (i) capacity building activities for workers’ organizations; (ii) gender-responsive diagnostics and focus-group discussions with informal workers; (iii) measurement of informal employment and application of international labour statistics standards; (iv) extension of social protection schemes to informal workers; (v) information campaign conducted by trade unions with a focus on informality.

ILO experts and trade unions in Central Asia discuss workplace safety in the region

On June 23, 2023 a two-day Regional Conference of Trade Unions of Central Asia on “The role of trade unions in ensuring occupational safety and health and the effective functioning of the labour inspectorate” opened in Astana. It was organized by the Federation of Trade Unions of Kazakhstan under the auspices of the International Labour Organization.
