The International Labour Organization (ILO), through the FAIRWAY programme convened a symposium on Migrant Resource Centres (MRCs) that brought together participants from three African countries of origin: Uganda, Kenya, and Nigeria. The central theme of the symposium revolved around enhancing the effectiveness of MRCs in providing access to information and essential services for both potential and in-service migrant workers, as well as the families they leave behind.

Africa-Arab States fellowship for journalism students in labour migration reporting

The ILO FAIRWAY programme has conducted back-to-back activities in Uganda and Jordan for journalism students and recent graduates of four universities: Makerere University (Uganda), Uganda Christian University (Uganda), Yarmouk University (Jordan) and Middle East University (Jordan). These activities are the first part of a broader cross-border fellowship aimed at increasing the interest of journalism students in international labour mobility, enhancing their labour migration reporting skills, and fostering cross-border networks to report these stories along a corridor approach.

Africa marked the World Day Against Child Labour in Africa and the Day of the African Child!

The African Union, ILO and UNICEF held a virtual Continental event to mark the World Day against Child Labour. The event brought together key actors, who discussed strategies to address child labour, taking a holistic and systemic approach based on the 2020 Global Estimates on Child Labour and related recommendations, which had been launched by the ILO and UNICEF on 10 June.
